Just a Note.............................

Pismo "08

Well, unfortunately for me, I was unable to attend the 2nd gathering of Nor-Cal Atv at Pismo beach this year. Due to circumstances beyond my control, It just could not be. Not for lack of trying mind you! I was at the 11th hour still attempting to show, even if I came on Saturday! But, as fate would have it, it was not meant to be. In the process of going over the quads I started one, when I thought I still had a chance of making it. Well, super hard to start and when it did there was a lot of banging around and it just would not run. Something decided to give out on me just before we may have been able to show for a day. Oh well, I guess I can only look forward from here for the next one. But from the reviews and stories posted, it sounded like everyone had a wonderful time. I was thinking about it all weekend. All I can say now is..... wait until next time!!!

Gotta Love that Jerry Brown!!

Well, once again our beloved anti-everything Attorney General Jerry Brown is at it again. Caught a news -blurb last week about the lawsuits filed by the Attorney General against the EPA for failing to regulate emissions from Off-Road vehicles. Well after much digging I can't find the specific facts stated in the news story, but I was able to find the lawsuit, and we actually would fall into the "Non-road" category, so it is true. Will this pass muster??  Negative in my opinion. We are lumped in with ships and airplanes and the like in their battle to reduce the Sun-spot activity, therefore reducing global-warming. But just a heads up, they always want to regulate something. The story is here.

Did You Know?.......

Off-Road Bans Please no-one...

"Environmentalists say latest national-forest restrictions are too lax; ORV fans say they’re too strict ... Congress last month concluded its first hearings on ORV impacts on national forests and millions of acres of public lands overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. While the BLM is taking some action, it is the Forest Service that is charging ahead to regulate ORV use." Check out the full story here.

Dunes' milk-vetch plant remains protected...
"After completing a second status review of Peirson's milk-vetch plant, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has concluded that it should remain listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act ... Off-highway vehicle groups ... had petitioned the federal wildlife agency seeking to remove the Peirson's milk-vetch from the federal list of endangered and threatened plants and animals ... [a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokeswoman] said they those areas within the closures will remain closed while the BLM continues to develop a Recreation Area Management Plan for the dunes...." Remember the decietful smokey the bear ads?...

The Ad Council, Forest Service, and National Association of State Foresters announced they are pulling the Smokey Bear "ATV" Public Service Announcement (PSA). In a July 28 updated email to the ATV community, the Office of the Chief of the Forest Service stated they have asked all media outlets to discontinue the airing of the ad. They say they were not trying to take a potshot at the Off Road community, just that they "didn't consult with the right people" in the process of making the ads. Do you believe that?? Those were some of the most offensive and lying ads I have ever seen!!  I guess they didn't consult their common sense either..... Oh that's right.... government, common sense is not in their dictionary.

Manufacturer news.

Suzuki unveils the 2009 z400 Quadsport!! Starting to look a lot more like the ltr 450 with its body style and fuel injection, the z400 still is a great machine for those that are going for the trails. With the new fuel injection, that should even make it better!! Check it out here.

Can-Am finally got its site done. With the team riders all listed and their bio's, check out our local friend Sage Bakers page, by going here. Can-Am also is introducing an all new 50in wide mx version ATV soon to enliven the competition between manufacturers for the MX dollar. With too many specs to list, go to Atv Riders.com for the full listing.

One Year Ago.....

Yes one year ago, we were here. Take a look at the news from then and who was the QOTM by going here.

My thoughts....

I know, you are thinking what the heck is this? Just another space taker? Well, in a way you are right. With all the recent fires here in our area, the news has been really focused on that. So my usual sources for pulling together a page were pretty much all about fires. Well, I must say, I know a bit about it now!!  Anyway, I was thinking.... sitting here, watching the xgames, reading article after article and I don't quite understand why we are still an "underdog" sport. We have been around for quite a while now.... longer than snowboarding, longer than supermoto, heck, now they even put rally cars in! Whats it gonna take to get recognized and promoted!! I think we need that one special item or trick to set us apart from the others. Hey, wouldn't it have been cool to see an ATV do the long jump and height jump that the bikes and skateboards did??  That could be one, and I am sure one of those AKRAIX riders could do it. Somehow we need to get in there. As to the MX, I find it funny, listening to some of the guys at the track close to my age (but not quite) talk about back in the day. They talk about full gates and how it used to be. Well, back in the day, I was still riding MX bikes and all the time down south. I hardely ever saw an ATV. When we did it was like.. Wow!!! Theres a quad!!! So with all the quads I see now, it dwarfs the amount from "back in the day". We need those people to help put us on the map!! Make sure when you see a rider to stop and tell them to come out to the track and help promote our sport in general!  We sure could use it!!
