Well, once again we are the target along with others in the never ending
campaign of trying to destroy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You
might wonder why I choose those words but I don't
choose them lightly. I choose
them for the reason this country was founded on.. Life,... endowed by our
creator to be infringed by no man, Liberty... to be free from the tyrannical
grip of government and the pursuit of happiness.... well , hey that's open to
interpretation. Really though, Our elected officials have now set their sights
on the basically unregulated (or slightly) regulated industries that have lax
emission controls. Ours just happens to fall into that category. Jerry Brown our
infamous attorney general has decided to try to get the EPA and the courts
(non-legislative) to enforce greenhouse-gas emissions on all new equipment. Well
we all know what that means. Less performance, more weight, more things to go
wrong. This will not only effect us, it effects quite a few industries.
Construction, Agriculture, Wineries etc. Anyone that uses industrial or small
equipment will be affected. My favorite quote it this: "This is going to happen," said center spokesman Dan Galpern. "The handwriting
is on the wall." Well, I always look at it like, don't count your eggs
before they are hatched, ya never know. We have a strong voice and in this
situation we will not be alone, we will have construction, agriculture, all the
factories and anyone who currently builds non-regulated equipment on our side.
So take some time and read the story by going
here. Or you can read the press
release and attached documents from the Office of Attorney General by going
here. And a little
fact for you to peruse:
Emissions by percentage:
4 Stroke Atv: 1.35%
2 Stroke Atv: .22%
Off Road Bikes: .38%
Keep in mind, those percentages above are of non-road vehicles and engines. So the percentage is not 1.35% of total emissions, it is 1.35% of total non-road emissions. What percentage of total emissions is Non-road emissions? Hmmm..... can't seem to find that.
Here is a story of change. One that is pretty obviously one sided but they did take the time to give a Off road user a chance to speak. With the growing number in off road recreators, and the new use maps coming in to play, the environmentalists have to try and strike out now while they still can. They see the growing popularity of off road use in public lands and the coalition of people coming together to fight them. Along with the use Maps that we denegrate now and again, they may end up being our savior. When those are passed and completed the environmentalist lobby will have a harder time with getting us off the trails that were approved for our use. Anyway the full, long story with a video that, if you care about off road, you should take the time to watch. Check it out here.
