Winom-Frazier OHV complex, OR
TRAIL BEGINNING:
Winom Creek Campground is the main staging area from the south. (21 miles east of Ukiah).
Fraizer Campground is a staging area from the north. (28 miles from La Grande)
Jct. FR 51 and FR 5182 (Chicken Hill Road) (14 miles north of Granite and 33 miles northeast of Sumpter).
Umapine Trailhead/Campground is a staging area for riding the trails off the FR 5160 (30 miles from La Grande).
TRAIL ENDING:
Winom Creek Campground, Frazier Campground, Umapine TH/CG, and FR 51 at Jct with FR 5182.
ACCESS:
The Complex is located approximately 60 miles south of Pendleton, 35 miles west of La Grande and 12 miles east of Ukiah, with access from State highways 244 and 395, and Forest Roads 52 and 5160.
ATTRACTIONS:
There are approximately 140 miles of trails with many loop rides. They are designed for riding Class I and III all-terrain vehicles (which are three- and four-wheeler ATV's and motorcycles). Hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians may also share the trail.
These trails offer challenges as well as access to scenic views, fishing, hunting, and other recreational activities with in the Complex.. Topography includes gentle to steep side slopes and some tablelands. The area is forested with western larch and varieties of fir and pine.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Safety - Caution: All the trails in the complex are two-way traffic and shared by other users. Many trails are tight and narrow and are maintained in a manner to provide a primitive trail experience. There are numerous blind corners. Beware: hikers, other riders, horses or mountain bikes could be at any turn. Rocks and logs will be slippery when wet. Riding fast is hazardous and not recommended.
Some of the Complex borders portions of the North Fort John Day Wilderness. Motorized or mechanical travel is prohibited in Wilderness. Travel on private land is allowed only with landowner's permission.
The Winom-Frazier Complex is remote so be prepared. Know the limitations of yourself and your vehicle, carry appropriate safety gear, always ride with a buddy and carry a first aid kit, extra clothing and emergency food.
